My aunt offered her 1952 colonial-style home to me. She purchased it in 1990 and did not make any updates to her home.
I arrived to the DMV in August 2025 and began renovating the home in September. I knew immediately that this home would need some sweat equity and elbow grease.
It was scary to think that I would be taking on this project, but I was also excited to make this home my own.
Here is everything I used in my home renovation!

Floors

The home originally came with hardwood floors, but I wanted to preserve them and move in immediately without having to deal with refinishing hardwood floors. Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is very durable and waterproof, so it made the most sense for my home.
The brand I went with is Flooret. They deliver straight to your doorstep and have an impressive color selection. The style I chose was Modin LVP in the Nakan colorway. I purchased both the click lock planks and stair treads to complete my project.
I highly recommend Flooret. If you’d love to save 5% OFF your order PLUS FREE SHIPPING, please send me a message with your full name and e-mail, and I’ll get a discount to your inbox!
I absolutely LOVE helping others create their dream home.
Paint
The majority of my home is white becuase I wanted it to look bright during the dark winter months. There are not many windows in my home, so I also wanted whatever light that comes in to reflect throughout the home.
The paint brand I went with has a matte finish. I used this primer to set the paint.
For paint brushes, I used Wooster and these rollers by Pro Grade. I also used a pole extender so that I did not need a ladder to paint.
Windows
I had to replace all of the windows in the home because none of them opened up easily and were VERY outdated.
I opted for Jeld-Wen double-hung windows throughout the home. They were easy to install and look very modern.
Kitchen Cabinets
I decided to go with cabinets from IKEA.
I booked an appointment with their design team and purchased alternating cabinets in white and green.
Countertops
I wanted a light green jade countertop to complement my white cabinets. I opted for quartz because it’s low-maintenance and easy to clean.
My kitchen is not big, so I was able to find remnants from a local granite/quartz company for less.
Lights
I opted for Leviton outlets because they are widely used, and I would not need to modify my home in any way to use them.
Here are the types of outlets and switches I have in my home:
Appliances
TBC
Services
- Trash – Garby
- WiFi – Verizon
